The situation of fuel prices, transport interconnection projects, military mobility and the dialogue on the development of the future European strategy for sustainable tourism were the main topics discussed on Monday, at Victoria Palace, during the meeting between Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Apostolos Tzitzikostas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism.
"The Government will approve in the coming period the second package of solutions to support citizens and the economy in the context of the increase in fuel prices, a hot topic for all of Europe," declared Prime Minister Bolojan, quoted in a Government's press release.
The Prime Minister highlighted the good collaboration with the European Commissioner's team and thanked him for the support given to the projects in which Romania is involved, recalling the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Romania, Greece and Bulgaria for the consolidation of cross-border cooperation in transport infrastructure.
Ilie Bolojan also presented the major infrastructure projects currently underway, emphasizing the importance of completing the investments from the NRRP and using the SAFE funds for the interconnection with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine through the A8 and A7 motorways.
During the discussions, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ciprian Serban, stated that the Romanian authorities are accelerating the implementation of projects and simplifying procedures, considering that regional interconnection and the development of the Port of Constanta represent strategic objectives.
"The Ministry of Transport stressed that the development of military mobility and cooperation between Romania, Bulgaria and Greece represent strategic directions of action, reflected both in the budget for 2026 and in the commitments assumed by our country regarding the absorption of European funds and accessing the SAFE Program", the press release reads.
For his part, European Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas highlighted Romania's geostrategic importance for the security of the region and Europe and stressed the need to accelerate interconnection projects, mentioning the Vertical Corridor.
"The European Commission is fully open to supporting both from a financial perspective, by accessing European funds, and through technical expertise, the acceleration of interconnection projects, and Romania is aligned with the priorities of my mandate", the European official also emphasized.
Referring to the fuel crisis, the Commissioner added that it is essential that Member States work closely together to overcome this situation. Another topic discussed was the dialogue initiated by the European Commissioner with Member States in order to prepare the future EU strategy for sustainable tourism.
The meeting was attended, on behalf of the Government, by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ciprian Serban, the Minister of Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Irineu Darau, the Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Mihai Jurca, and State Counselor Luminita Odobescu.
