People in the north of Tulcea County received, on the night from Monday to Tuesday, a new RO-ALERT message against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, and two F-16 aircraft monitored drones flying near Romanian airspace.

In the message sent at 3:48, the population was warned about the possibility of objects falling from the airspace and received self-protection recommendations.

"Two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force on Air Policing combat service took off from the 86th Air Base in Fetesti, and air defence systems were placed in firing positions. No incursions into national airspace were detected. The air alert ended at 4:45," according to a press release from the National Defence Ministry (MApN).

According to the National Defence Ministry, during the nearly 70 attacks recorded near the Romanian-Ukrainian border, there were 21 incursions by drones used by Russia into national airspace, and in 41 cases, fragments from these devices were found on Romanian territory, most of them in the northern area of Tulcea County.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU) has issued more than 70 extreme alert messages in four counties, most of them dedicated to the population of Tulcea.
