AGERPRES special corespondent Cristian Lupascu reports: The Republic of Moldova will never be isolated again, declared on Friday the President of the Parliament in Chisinau, Igor Grosu, after signing the contract on the design and construction of the bridge over the Prut, between Iasi and Ungheni.

He specifies that the new road bridge will facilitate access to the highway network of the European Union, but also to the highway lot that will connect Ungheni with Chisinau.

"Today we witnessed a moment that Ungheni and the entire Republic of Moldova have been waiting for since the Flower Bridge in the '90s. (...) If our parents' generation, 34 years ago, built a flower bridge, we will be the generation that builds bridges to facilitate our connection between the two banks of the Prut. Access to the highway network of the European Union will be facilitated, as well as to the highway lot that will connect Ungheni with Chisinau. These are steps that prove to us that we are part of the great European family and that our place is in the European Union. With Romania's help and being part of this family, we will thus ensure that the Republic of Moldova will never be isolated again and that our citizens will have the same standard of living, income and freedom of movement as all the citizens of the European Union", stated Grosu.

The contract for the construction of the new bridge over the Prut was signed on Friday. It stipulates that the design will be done within six months, and the works will be executed in 24 months. The value of the investment is 151.6 million RON.
