The National Museum of Art of Romania announces the organisation of a free guided tour on Wednesday from 16:00 in the 'József Klein and the Baia Mare School' temporary exhibition.
'In the context of the jubilee year 2026, dedicated to marking 130 years since the birth of the artist József Klein (1896-1945) and celebrating 130 years since the founding of the Baia Mare School of Painting (1896-2026), we invite you to a special event in the temporary exhibition József Klein and the Baia Mare School',' MNAR said in a post on Facebook.
The interactive guided tour, lasting one hour and including thematic stops at key works, will be led by curators Robert Strebeli, director of the County Museum of Art Baia Mare Artistic Centre', and Alina Petrescu, Head of the Modern Romanian Art Section at the National Museum of Art of Romania.
During the event, the organisers propose the following discussion topics: the pedagogy of Simon Hollósy and the method of studying from nature (plein air); the transformation of visual language and the rejection of academicism; József Klein as an artist of the community and the social world, with a realistic expression open to modernity; the Parisian experience and the assimilation of European influences (Impressionism, Fauvism, New Objectivity); the memorial dimension, namely the deportation of Klein and his wife Piroska Kohn, their disappearance at Auschwitz-Birkenau and the museum's responsibility in preserving cultural memory.
Access is free, limited to 40 people, MNAR also announced.
