Romania is joining the World Cancer Day international mobilisation by lighting in orange dozens of buildings and landmarks in Bucharest and elsewhere in the country, in a message of solidarity, awareness and hope for cancer patients and their families.
On Wednesday evening, between, at the initiative of the Magic Association, 68 built landmarks in Bucharest and 31 other settlements in Romania will light up in orange, to make visible this struggle which, most of the time, is fought in silence.
According to a press release of the Magic Association, included in the event are the Arch of Triumph, the Palace of Parliament, the Bucharest City Hall, the Romanian Opera, the National Museum of Art of Romania, the Carol I Central University Library, the Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History, the CEC Palace, the National Military Club, the Odeon Theatre, CREART, the Comic Opera for Children, the National Madrigal Choir Building, STS Tower, National Children's Palace, Muzica Store, as well as the Grand Hotel Bucharest, Hilton Garden Inn Bucharest Airport, Hilton Garden Inn Old Town, Ramada Hotel and Sheraton Hotel.
The action is part of the World Cancer Day global mobilisation initiated by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), and is supported in Romania by the Magic Association, a UICC partner since 2021.
Through this symbolic gesture, Romania joins the international community that, every year, sends a common message: cancer concerns us all, and support for patients and their families is essential.
In Romania, about 100,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year.
Experts warn that, in the absence of effective prevention and early diagnosis programs, the number of cases will continue to increase in the decades ahead.
