Mandatory private pension plans had assets worth RON 218.2 billion at the end of February 2026, up 38% year-on-year, according to statistics with the Financial Oversight Authority (ASF).
As much as 95% of the investment of privately managed pension plans were made in Romanian assets, most of them being denominated in lei. A large part of the Romanian instruments are government bonds or shares listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).
According to ASF, the contributions collected in February 2026 were worth RON 2.08 billion, while the average contribution was RON 454.
At the end of February, government bonds made up the largest share of assets, at RON140.80 billion and 64.5%. These are followed by stocks, worth RON 59.46 billion (27.3%), and corporate bonds, at RON 8.16 billion (3.7% of total assets).
ASF says that in February 2026 mandatory private pension funds had 8,492,637 contributors.
The following pension funds are active under Pillar II: Metropolitan Life, Aripi, AZT Viitorul tau, BCR, BRD, NN and Vital.
