The role of the government delegation at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos is to promote Romania and its modernisation agenda, namely the acceleration and smart use of European funds, investments in infrastructure, education and health, the green and digital transition and the strengthening of economic resilience, Minister of Investments and European Projects Dragos Pislaru said on Tuesday in a Facebook post.
"My role here is, together with my colleagues in our delegation, to promote Romania and present to international public and private stakeholders our modernisation agenda: the acceleration and smart use of European funds, investments in infrastructure, education and health, the green and digital transition and strengthening the resilience of the Romanian economy. I will use these days in Davos to strengthen Romania's profile as a serious partner, one that does its homework, attracts investment at an accelerated pace and is ready to play a more important role in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond," the minister wrote, agerpres reports.
According to him, Davos is the most important meeting point in the world: nearly 3,000 participants from more than 130 countries, including 400 political leaders - over 60 heads of state and government - and around 850 CEOs of the world's largest companies.
Among the high-profile participants, in Pislaru's view, are US President Donald J. Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, as well as technology leaders such as Satya Nadella (Microsoft) and Jensen Huang (Nvidia).
"In this context, it is essential for Romania to take an active part in the discussions shaping major directions in investment, technology, security and international cooperation," the minister said.
He added that, besides attending plenary meetings, he has a series of bilateral talks and is a speaker in a main programme session regarding the importance of investment in housing at European and global level.
"Romania needs professional representation and I am glad that I can use my international experience in this regard and that, at last, after many years, we have a serious participation at Davos," the Minister of Investments and European Projects said.
Romania is participating, between 19 and 23 January, in this year's edition of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, with the largest government delegation in the history of the conference, made up of Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu, Minister of Investments and European Projects Dragos Pislaru, Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan and Presidential Adviser Radu Burnete.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), this year's edition of the World Economic Forum has as its central theme the promotion of dialogue ("A spirit of dialogue") and brings together high-level officials (presidents, prime ministers, ministers etc.), representatives of major international organisations and institutions, academia, the media and NGOs.
"The discussion agenda will focus on five major global challenges - cooperation in a contested world, unlocking new sources of growth, investing in human capital, the responsible promotion of innovation, increasing global prosperity. Against the backdrop of increasingly evident political and ideological fragmentation, the WEF aims for the 2026 edition of the Forum to serve as an impartial platform for dialogue and also to provide a framework for international discussions on the sidelines of the agenda regarding new developments in transatlantic relations," a MAE press release informed.
