Immigration police in Bucharest and Ilfov have identified nine foreign nationals in breach of immigration laws over the past two weeks and have issued penalties to several employers, according to a press release the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

'Between 28 August and 10 September, immigration police from Bucharest and Ilfov, in cooperation with other structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and partner institutions, carried out a series of control operations, during which nine foreign nationals were found to be in violation of the law, and employers were sanctioned with administrative fines,' the IGI said.

On 28 August, immigration officers from Bucharest, together with representatives of the Territorial Labour Inspectorate, conducted a check at the workplace of a company (a restaurant), where they found a 43-year-old Indian citizen working without a work permit and without a written employment contract. His residence permit was revoked, a return decision with voluntary departure deadline was issued, and the company was fined 10,000 lei.

On 29 August, officers from the Immigration Office and Public Order Directorate carried out an action in Sector 2, where they found a 26-year-old Nepali citizen residing illegally. He was escorted to the border and issued a ban on entering the European Union, the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation for a period of one year.

On 3 September, immigration police in Ilfov discovered two Bangladeshi citizens, aged 40 and 43, at Henri Coanda International Airport, intending to travel to France. Investigations revealed that they had no employment contracts with the company that had obtained their work permits and were not respecting the purpose of their visas. Their visas were revoked, they were deported under escort, and a 6-month entry ban was imposed.

On the same day, a 25-year-old Bangladeshi citizen was found residing illegally in Sector 1. He applied for international protection in Romania and was transferred to the Regional Centre for Asylum Seekers in Bucharest.

Another similar case was recorded on 4 September, involving a 40-year-old Nepali woman residing illegally in Sector 2. As she is a family member of a Romanian citizen, and Romanian law prohibits deportation in such cases, she was directed to the immigration office to regularise her residency status.

On 8 September, three foreign nationals - two men from Bangladesh and Pakistan, and a woman from Sri Lanka, aged between 27 and 35 - were identified in illegal situations. They were deported under escort, and entry bans were imposed for periods ranging from 6 months to 2 years.

Also on 8 September, immigration police fined a bakery and pastry company 20,000 lei for illegally employing two Bangladeshi citizens without work permits or secondment approvals.
