Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Melescanu on Wednesday welcomed First Deputy PM for Foreign Affairs and the special emissary of the PM of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Bui Thanh Son, in which context, the head of the Romanian diplomacy voiced his appreciation for the dynamism of the political dialogue over the last years and highlighted the Romanian side's interest in strengthening the economic relations, growth and diversification of the trade exchanges between the two states, a Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) release sent to AGERPRES informs.
Minister Teodor Melescanu underscored Romania's commitment, as member state currently holding the Presidency at the Council of the EU, for signing the Free Trade Agreement and the Agreement on Protection of EU-Vietnam Investments as soon as possible.
Moreover, during the talks with Secretary of State for global affairs Monica Gheorghita there were reviewed the current stage of bilateral relations and the prospects for strengthening sectoral cooperation in such fields as agriculture, energy, education.
The two dignitaries had an exchange of opinion with respect to the modalities of encouraging bilateral trade, the promotion of Romanian products on the Vietnamese market and the organisation of business events with the support of the chambers of commerce and industries of the two countries, the above mentioned release informs.
A priority on the agenda of discussions was the assesment of the current stage of the EU - Vietnam dialogue and steps to be made in signing the Free Trade Agreement and the Agreement on Protection of EU-Vietnam Investments, informs the same source.
The two parties also approached the cooperation opportunities at the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), where the secretary of state for global bilateral affairs reiterated the invitation extended to the Vietnamese part to participate in the events organised in Romania, in May 2019, the ASEM Education Ministers Meeting and the Conference of ASEF Rectors and Students, reads the release
