PSD President Sorin Grindeanu declared on Monday that he will not negotiate with the Opposition parties in order to vote on the amendments submitted by the Social Democrats in Parliament to the 2026 budget draft.
"PSD has submitted the amendments that you know, there is nothing new, those related to the solidarity package. These are things that we have announced again for a few weeks and that we are committed to. Today I asked my parliamentary colleagues to fight, in a positive way, in the specialized committees, so that the amendments submitted by us can be passed and we can have a budget that also contains this solidarity package," said Grindeanu at the Palace of Parliament.
He was asked what votes he relies on for the PSD amendments to pass in Parliament and if he will negotiate with those from AUR for this.
"There are 26 billion in general actions at the Ministry of Finance. Please look there. 26 billion. We announced in advance that we want this solidarity package, which is somewhere around 3 billion. Of course, if we also discuss CASS and so on, we go to 3.2-3.3 billion. There are things that I refuse to negotiate. I will never negotiate the allowance for children with disabilities, I will not negotiate the small pensions in Romania, I will not negotiate CASS for mothers, I will not negotiate CASS for war veterans, for political prisoners. There are amendments that we announced in advance, which we support, and I continue to believe that there is a majority in Parliament that will vote for these amendments. (...) We still believe that the vulnerable at this moment need these amounts and we will not "Don't negotiate with those from AUR, nor with those from S.O.S., from POT, because, for sure, if you enter into a negotiation, something else will be asked of you in exchange," he said.
