Romanian actor, director and screenwriter Emanuel Parvu is among the eight filmmakers selected to present their next film project at the Investors Circle within the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.
Now in its fourth edition, the programme brings together each year some of the most acclaimed directors of the moment who have films in development, giving them the opportunity to present their previously unseen feature film projects in an exclusive setting, with the aim of obtaining financing and support from a select group of investors.
Representing a new wave of international cinema, these directors bring distinctive voices and projects covering various genres and budgets, selected for their creative ambition and investment potential, the quoted source says.
Alongside Emanuel Parvu, this year's selection includes Magnus von Horn, Juho Kuosmanen, Atsuko Hirayanagi, Felipe Galvez, Carine Tardieu, Ismael El Iraki and Noe Debre.
According to the event's website, the 2026 selection process was overseen by the Head of Investors Circle, Alexandra Zakharchenko, in collaboration with an annually renewed committee of industry figures. This year's committee comprised Céline Dornier (Content Executive, IPR.VC), Jean des Foręts (Founder & CEO, Petit Film), Alice Laffillé (Vice President of International Sales, FilmNation Entertainment) and Anthony Muir (Senior Executive for International Co-Productions, Film i Väst).
'This year's selection reflects a deliberate effort to bring together projects at different stages of development and financing, spanning a wide range of budgets, genres and narrative approaches. Particular attention has been given to projects that are ready to engage with private investment, combining clear market potential with strong creative positioning, including a growing presence of elevated genre-driven works,' said Alexandra Zakharchenko.
Scheduled for Saturday, 16 May and Sunday, 17 May, the event will take place at the prestigious Plage des Palmes, the official beachside venue of the Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes.
Emanuel Parvu's debut feature Meda earned Best Director at Sarajevo, followed by Mikado (San Sebastián). His latest film Three Kilometres to the End of the World, produced by FAMart, premiered in Competition at Cannes in 2024, where it won the Queer Palm.
