Minister of Education and Research Daniel David told teachers on Thursday June 5, Teacher's Day, that he appreciates the way they do their duty to students in a system that does not always support them as it should and that they know the problems related to the social role, infrastructure, deficiencies of the educational process and bureaucracy, but they have to be optimistic that this education system can be improved.
"'Teacher' is here a symbolic term for all teachers in pre-university education. I like to call you (let's call ourselves) 'people of education.' On this occasion, I say Happy Teacher's Day to you all! I want to tell you that I greatly appreciate the fact that you are trying to do your duty to the students in a system that today does not always support you as it should in this noble mission, metaphorically speaking, of looking for the spark in each child and turning it into light. That is, to make a good education, through which children finally become good specialists, good citizens and people satisfied with their own lives. Thank you! I want to tell you that I know the problems related to the social role, the infrastructure, the deficiencies of the educational process and bureaucracy. And it is not okay not to solve them," the minister said in his message.
David also told the teachers to be optimistic that the system can be improved, and everyone should be part of the solution, not the problem.
"I want to tell you, however, that we must be optimistic and that together we can improve this system, for the sake of all the people of education, if we choose to trust each other, to cooperate, to do our part that must be done, as it should, where it must and when it must and, most importantly, to be part of the solution, not the problem."
The minister added that Teacher's Day was established in relation to the date of birth of Gheorghe Lazar, considered one of the founders of modern education.
"As rector-elect of the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (UBB) I cannot but remember and rejoice that this day of celebration dedicated to teachers was established in relation to the date of birth of Gheorghe Lazar, considered one of the founders of modern education (including higher education) in Romanian language (the main personality in this regard in Wallachia), who completed his initial higher education studies (academic) at the academic establishment in Cluj that UBB continues today," said David.
