The President of the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE), George Niculescu, and the President of the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste, and Water (RAAEY), Konstantinos Tsimaras, on Thursday signed in Athens a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that marks an important stage in the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of energy regulation and in supporting regional integration of markets in South-East Europe.
According to a press release from ANRE, the memorandum reflects the joint commitment between ANRE and RAAEY to improving institutional and regulatory processes, exchanging information and good practices, supporting regional coordination efforts within the EU, contributing to the development of a more liquid and functional energy market, promoting institutional capacity development and staff training.
"The signing of this memorandum with RAAEY is more than a formal gesture: it is a practical commitment to a more coordinated regulation, more coherent and more efficient in South-East Europe. In a region where energy cannot be viewed in terms of national borders, cooperation between authorities means better processes, the exchange of know-how, closer cooperation within the EU and, in the end, a more liquid market and more competitive prices for end customers," George Niculescu said in the press release.
On the same occasion of his visit to Athens, the ANRE head also had a meeting with the President and General Manager of PPC Group, Georgios Stassis, during which they reviewed the main developments on the Romanian energy market and the prospects for increasing investment - both in new generation capacities and in network development.
In addition, a meeting was held with Romania's Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, Carmen-Ileana Mihalcescu, to identify opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation between Romania and Greece in the field of energy.
