The National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) issued on Friday a Code Orange for flood for rivers in Moldavia, as well as a a Code Yellow for flood covering watercourses in 15 counties.
According to the quoted source, a Code Orange will be in effect on Friday from 16:00 to 00:00 for Suceava and Neamt counties, while a second warning in the same category will be valid from 16:00 on 3 April to 12:00 on 4 April for rivers in Botosani and Iasi counties.
Moreover, a Code Yellow flood warning applies from 11:00 on 3 April to 00:00 on 4 April for certain river sections in Mehedinti, Dolj, Sibiu, Valcea, Olt, Vrancea, Neamt, Iasi, Vaslui, Bacau, Galati, Harghita, Covasna, Suceava and Botosani counties.
The phenomena expected include significant runoff on slopes, torrents and streams, rapid floods on small rivers with possible local flooding, and increases in flow rates and water levels, with a likelihood of exceeding defence thresholds.
The INHGA warns residents in the areas under flood codes to avoid travelling near rivers, bridges or low-lying areas prone to flooding. The institute also stressed the importance of clearing ditches and drainage channels to facilitate water flow and ensure evacuation routes from homes.
Furthermore, if the phenomena intensify, the instructions of local authorities and emergency services must be strictly followed to prevent risks to life and property.
