The Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) announces a new edition dedicated to children, which will take place between October 6-12, in cinemas in Cluj-Napoca.
"MiniTIFF, the special project of the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) dedicated to children and families with a passion for film, reaches its 2nd edition. Between October 6 and 12, the TIFF House and the Victoria, Marasti and Dacia cinemas become playgrounds for the imagination, with animated stories or stories inspired by real life. All are united by the challenge that MiniTIFF launches to its audience: the courage to explore, for seven days, the world of film with and about children. MiniTIFF 2025 is generous in premieres: more than half of the films in the program are premiering in Romania. Even the collection films, selected for a complete journey through ageless adventures, are seen for the first time on the big screen, in Cluj. The festival also programs a series of workshops inspired by the art of cinema and current visual culture," it is shown. in a statement sent out Thursday by organizers.
According to the cited source, the age of 6 is perfect to discover Cadet in Space, a musical fable without dialogue presented in major festivals such as Berlin, Anency or Toronto. Children over 7 years old are eagerly awaiting "Flow", winner of the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film, and "Mary Anning, the Hunt for Fossils", winner of the Locarno Kids 2025 Award. They are two stories that speak of courage and passion, with superb animation.
"This year's selection is very much like a schoolyard: we have films with strong personalities, titles from major festivals, with the associated awards, but we also have films that do not align with trends. But they all have something to say, they take the risk of being themselves to the end. I believe that the new generation needs to be guided towards the courage to define itself without fear of the opinions of others, and the films from Mini TIFF can inspire it", stated, quoted in the press release, Craiţa Nanu, MiniTIFF selector.
According to the organizers, viewers will experience comical, thrilling, emotional, and fantasy stories that travel from Japan to South Africa, pass through Poland, Norway, Germany, India, and the United States, filling the seven days of the festival. The program is designed for children aged 4 and up, for whom parents can choose one of the 3 non-verbal animated short films.
"A collection of cinematic jewels awaits children over 10 years old. They will all fall in love with Duma, the main character in My Friend the Cheetah, and will want to embark on an adventure with the Garden Boat. Old films, hard to find on streaming platforms, can be seen together with the whole family, on the big screen. A Real Princess, the jewel of director Alfonso Cuaron that marked generations of children, Ronia, the Robber's Girl, the Swedish film that won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale in 1985, or Toys, the film in which Robin Williams plays a major role, are included in the MiniTIFF screenings. The films are followed by guided discussions by cultural mediators, psychologists and other special guests who will help young viewers define their own conclusions to the stories on screen. and leave with new ideas in the adventure of everyday life. Workshops are present every day of the festival. Children can learn about the history of animation, how to use a stop motion program or understand how technologies such as AI and 3D can help them develop their imagination," the organizers also mention.
