ANSVSA: 135 outbreaks of African swine flu active in Romania

A total of 135 outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) were active on Thursday, after 88 outbreaks were extinguished between December 30 and January 6, according to a press release issued on Friday by the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), Agerpres reports.

Of the extinguished outbreaks, 16 were found in commercial swine farms, including commercial A-type farms.

The total number of pigs in active outbreaks is 276,348.

Between December 30 and January 6, 10 new outbreaks of African swine flu were recorded, as follows: three outbreaks in Bihor County, two outbreaks in Cluj County and one outbreak in each of the following counties: Dolj, Harghita, Prahova, Satu-Mare, Vaslui.

The 88 outbreaks extinguished during this period were located in the counties of Teleorman (70 outbreaks extinguished), Ilfov (8 outbreaks), Giurgiu (6 outbreaks), Dambovita, Timis, Bucharest, Vaslui (one outbreak each).

Since the first report of the presence of the ASF virus in Romania - on July 31, 2017, and until now, 6,161 cases have been diagnosed in wild boars, in 41 counties. According to the European provisions, cases of PPA in wild boars are extinguished at least two years after their appearance.

Between January 1 and 6, 11 new cases of ASF were recorded in wild boars: four cases in wild boars found dead in the Bistrita-Nasaud county, two cases in wild boars hunted in the Dambovita county, two cases in wild boars hunted in Iasi county, one case of wild boar hunted in Bihor and one in Tulcea county, and one case of wild boar found dead in Hunedoara county.
