Valahia University of Targoviste (UVT) ranks first among universities in Romania in the innovation category, according to the SCImago Institutions Rankings 2025, the higher education institution said in a press release sent on Friday.
'According to the 2025 edition of the SCImago Institutions Rankings, Valahia University of Targoviste ranks first nationally in the university rankings in the Innovation Rank category within this international system for evaluating research and innovation performance. The result confirms the constant progress of Valahia University in capitalising on research and applying scientific results in relevant technological fields,' the press release reads, agerpres reports.
According to the quoted source, at global level, Valahia University recorded a significant improvement in the innovation ranking, climbing from 6,633rd place in 2022 to 3,542nd place in 2025, based on data extracted from Scopus and analysed using the SCImago methodology.
'The SCImago Institutions Rankings is internationally recognised as a tool for evaluating the performance of academic and research institutions and is based exclusively on objective, verifiable and quantifiable data. Its analysis focuses on three areas: research performance, innovation and societal impact, without including reports provided directly by universities. With regard to innovation, the ranking tracks universities' capacity to produce scientific knowledge used in technological and industrial developments through three main indicators: Innovative Knowledge (IK), which measures the volume of scientific output quoted in patents; Technological Impact (TI), the percentage of scientific publications quoted in patents, an indicator independent of institutional size; and Patents (PT), representing the number of patent applications filed (simple families),' UVT further mentions.
The indicators are based on data from PATSTAT, the database of the European Patent Office, and cover a wide range of scientific areas.
'This performance is supported by the strategic measures adopted by the university in support of research and innovation, set out in the Scientific Research and University Creation Strategy 2025-2029. The result achieved in the SCImago Institutions Rankings 2025 is also relevant from the perspective of institutional evaluations at national level, as this international ranking is taken into account within the Meta-ranking for the classification of universities in Romania, used as a reference tool for analysing the academic and scientific performance of higher education institutions,' representatives of the University of Targoviste added.
