Trade unionists from various sectors of activity and civilian and military retirees protested on Sunday against abusive decisions taken by the authorities, in front of the headquarters of the Romanian Government and several relevant embassies and institutions of the central public administration.
The protest actions were organized by the Meridican National Trade Union Confederation, the Union of Retired Military Personnel/National Council of Civil Society, the railway unions, the Federation of Pensioners' Unions, etc. and took place between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
The protesters' demands concern: the cancellation of the GEOs and of the draft GEOs assumed by the new Government from the installation until now, especially in the fiscal, budgetary and legal fields; immediate application of the provisions of the Organic Laws regarding salaries, pensions and allowances, with the cancellation of the unconstitutional provisions introduced by GEOs 95/2014, 57/2015, 59/2017, 114/2018, etc. and GEO no. 226 / 30.12.2020; establishing the minimum gross salary in the economy of 2,400 lei starting with January 1, 2021 and increasing the pension point by 40pct; aligning incomes and pensions with real inflation and not just with the inflation rate; the acquisition of new electric trains on European funds for the financial years 2014-2020 and another 200 new trains on European funds for the financial years 2021-2027 under the two operational programmes in which these funds are provided for the change of old rolling stock; real reform of the Judiciary; the reopening of schools; priority investments in health, transport and education.
