DefMin Miruta meets new U.S. ambassador: Romania is firm promoter of strengthening transatlantic relationship

Romania is a "firm" promoter of the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America and of the consolidation of the transatlantic relationship, the Minister of National Defense, Radu Miruta said on Friday during the meeting he had with the new U.S. ambassador in Bucharest, Darryl Nirenberg.

At the beginning of the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, the minister congratulated the American diplomat on taking over his mandate in our country and wished him success in fulfilling his responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of the relationship between Romania and the U.S.

The agenda of the discussions focused on cooperation in the field of defense, regional security and the consolidation of NATO's Eastern Flank, recent developments in the regional and international security environment, with an emphasis on the situation in the Black Sea region, tensions in the Middle East and their implications for global stability, and support for Ukraine in the context of the war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation, according to a press release from the Ministry of Defense for AGERPRES.

According to the press release, the minister emphasized that Romania is a firm promoter of the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America and of the consolidation of the transatlantic relationship and highlighted that, although it is in a difficult fiscal context, our country respects its commitment made within NATO to gradually increase budget allocations for defense.

He pointed out that the American military presence in Romania, together with U.S. investments in strategic and technological fields, contributes to the consolidation of national security and to the strengthening of Romania's position within NATO and the Euro-Atlantic community.

The two officials analyzed the prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation in the field of defense, including the development of military infrastructure, the expansion of training programs and the conduct of joint military exercises, aimed at contributing to increasing interoperability between the armed forces of the two states.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Miruta and Ambassador Nirenberg reaffirmed their joint commitment to the development of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the U.S. and to the continuation of close cooperation in the field of security and defense, for the benefit of stability and security in the region.
