Two bids were submitted on Monday to the tender for the design and building of the Fast Danube 2 project, which will revitalize the Romanian-Bulgarian sector of the Danube, on 470 km, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ciprian Serban announced on Facebook.

"Fast Danube 2 - real interest from the market. Today, two bids were submitted in the tender for the design and execution of the Fast Danube 2 project, the strategic investment that will revitalize the Romanian-Bulgarian sector of the Danube, on 470 km. It is a clear signal that the market responds to this major project, with an estimated value of approximately 170 million euros", the minister wrote.

According to him, the Fast Danube 2 project will allow the navigation period to increase from 280 to 340 days per year and will generate an estimated 20% increase in the volume of goods transported on the river, directly contributing to the consolidation of river transport and regional economic development.

The project provides for 110 km of dredged navigable channel, 9 chevrons and 4 chevrons, 5.45 km of bank stabilization and an artificial island.

"The bid evaluation stage follows, and the signing of the contract is expected in July 2026 at the latest. We continue to invest in transport infrastructure and in capitalizing on the potential of the Danube as a European logistics axis," the minister also wrote.

In July 2024, the European Commission announced the winning projects in the Connecting Europe Facility call for proposals, and Romania received funding for three infrastructure projects, including Fast Danube 2, which will improve navigability conditions on the Danube sector shared by Romania and Bulgaria. The project was submitted by the Autonomous Administration of the Lower Danube Galati.
