Romania is ready to truly become a major tourism destination for China, Tourism Minister Bogdan Trif said in Constanta, after a meeting with a delegation from the municipality of Shanghai.
According to a press release issued by the relevant ministry and sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, the Chinese officials were interested in the development potential of Romania's tourism.
The discussions that took place between the members of the Chinese delegation headed by Li Chunping, Director of the European and African Affairs Division, and Tourism Minister Bogdan Trif, the President of the Constanta County Council, Horia Marius Tutuianu, Constanta County Prefect Ioan Albu and the Mayor of Constanta, Decebal Fagadau, revolved around ways to invest in Romania's tourism infrastructure.
In this context, the Tourism minister highlighted the efforts made to render Romania an attractive destination for Chinese citizens, and the reduction of the time for granting visas to the Chinese tourists represents a substantial advantage over the previous years. In fact, the minister emphasized the progress made by Romanian tourism in the last period.
"China has a huge potential, it is the country that of late has constantly supplied annually more than 100 million tourists worldwide. In 2017, Romania recorded a 22-percent increase in Chinese visitors. The fact that we are on an ascending line gladdens us, but the time has come for Romania to become a major tourism destination for China! We have come to support those who want to travel to Romania and have managed to reduce the time for granting visas," Bogdan Trif said.
The Romanian and Chinese officials have also talked about a direct air route between Shanghai and Bucharest, an initiative that would support both the Chinese investors in Romania and the development of tourism in our country.
