PNL deputy Ionut Stroe believes that the adoption of the legislative proposal to amend the Law on the prevention and combating of violence during sports competitions and games, adopted on Wednesday in the Senate, is intended to bring more people to stadiums and make sports "more attractive and safer".
"The new form of the law (...) is not about me nor about any party or coalition. It is about how we bring more people to the stadiums, how we make sport more attractive and, above all, safer. About how we can improve the income generated by sporting events and help sports clubs," Ionut Stroe wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
The draft provides for the digitalization of access and ticketing systems, modern technologies to increase safety, increasing the number of seats occupied by spectators in stadiums, extra money from economic activities specific to sports arenas, clear rules for responsible consumption of low-alcohol beverages, more attractive and better organized sports shows, clearly defined responsibilities between clubs and authorities, more efficient cooperation between institutions, rapid and correct management of incidents.
"All this ultimately means safer stadiums for everyone: for loyal supporters, for those who come occasionally and, especially, for families. Yes, European legislation is stricter than that in Romania. That is precisely why the future Law 89 is a necessary step to align ourselves with modern standards and to support clubs, reduce organizational risks and integrate new technologies into sport, to eliminate some current restrictions and limitations. This project was not done overnight. It was worked on together with the Romanian Football Federation, the Professional Football League, the Senate Defense Committee, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the partners in the governing coalition," added Stroe.
He urged dialogue in the Chamber of Deputies, where a new debate will follow, for "the best possible law for Romanian sport and its spectators."
"If there are better ideas, constructive proposals or improvements from parliamentary colleagues, civil society, supporters or clubs, we are waiting for them. Criticism is useful when it is constructive. We are open and flexible to any proposals. The important thing is to have the best possible law for Romanian sport and its spectators," Stroe said.
On Wednesday, senators adopted - with 64 votes "for", 34 "against" and one abstention - the project on combating violence in stadiums, initiated by a group of senators mostly from the PNL.
