Speaker of Romania's Chamber of Deputies Sorin Grindeanu on Monday welcomed visiting Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann to discuss how Romania can speed up its joining OECD and, especially, the directions of reform that would bring balance and stability, inform Agerpres.
"I underlined that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) strongly supports Romania's accession to the OECD and that the objective must be accompanied by balanced reforms, which protect citizens and provide predictability for the business community. I appreciated the fact that progressive taxation is considered by the OECD to be a fair and modern instrument used by many of the member states, but also the fact that the OECD understands the need for a social balance, so that the transformations will benefit of all Romanians. The message is clear: Romania needs modernisation, but in a fair and equitable framework," Grindeanu wrote in a scoial media post.
He added that PSD will do everything possible so that joining the OECD is not just a formal step, but "a real chance to develop and strengthen Romania's role in the club of developed economies."
OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann was in Romania on Monday for meetings with Romanian state officials.
