Kata Mandel and Henrietta Bartalis will be the first athletes to represent Romania in the snowboard competition at the Winter Olympics, CSM Miercurea-Ciuc sports club informs in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Sunday.

The two athletes from Miercurea-Ciuc will compete in the snowboard cross event at the 2026 Winter Olympics, in Milan-Cortina, according to the World Cup ranking published by the International Ski Federation (FIS), in which the two finished in 28th and 30th places, respectively, in an extremely competitive system, in which only 31 athletes got to qualify for the Olympics.

The analysis of the last three editions of the Olympic Games shows that the average age of the athletes who won medals in the snowboard cross event was usually between 24 and 29 years old. In this context, the fact that Mandel qualified at just 19 years old, and Bartalis at 21 years old, highlights a high level of performance and a long-term Olympic potential.

''This success is the result of sustained and well-structured work. Coaches Kinda Geza and Reisz Zoltan played an essential role in the preparation of the two athletes, contributing through professionalism, experience and dedication to achieving this Olympic goal," the press release also states.

The Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina will take place from February 6 to 22.
