Slovakia's President Andrej Kiska on Tuesday will be in the north-western city of Oradea, Bihor County, for the first time, to meet leaders the county's Slovak community, the largest in Romania, as well as local administration officials, Chairman of the Democratic Union of Romania's Slovaks and Czechs (UDSCR) MP Adrian-Miroslav Merka told agerpres on Monday.
"This is the first visit of the new Slovak president to Romania and he will honour us by touring the two big counties where Slovak ethnics live in Romania - Bihor and Arad. The visit will be a good opportunity for leaders of the Slovak community of Romania to meet for the first time Slovak President Andrej Kiska. Also attending the meeting will be teachers, professors, priests, UDSCR organisation chairs and other people," said Merka.
The UDSCR leadership has sent invitations to local administration officials as well, including the Bihor prefect, the Bihor County Council chair and the Oradea City mayor. The meeting of the near 40 Slovak leaders of Bihor County will be held at the offices of the UDSCR in Oradea.
Merka also said Kiska's visit will not take more than 30-40 minutes, after which the president will leave for Nadlac to visit the local high school and UDSCR offices and receive the freedom of the town.
Bihor County is home to the largest Slovak community of Romania, of about 8,500.
