Senior official Birchall: British ambassador Paul Brummel, a genuine friend of Romania

Deputy Prime Minister Ana Birchall welcomed on Thursday British ambassador in Bucharest Paul Brummel on a farewell visit, calling him a true friend of Romania and also thanking him for his collaboration and efforts to deepen the Romanian-British relationship.

"I want to thank Mr Ambassador Paul Brummel for the excellent relationship he has developed and promoted between Romania and the United Kingdom during his term in office, as well as for a successful institutional collaboration, as he has been a genuine friend of Romania. The relationship between Romania and the UK was, is and will be a special relationship. The UK will remain one of Romania's most important partners and strategic allies, even in the post-Brexit context, " said Birchall.

She added that Romania wants the UK to stay as close to the European Union as possible and to continue to play a leading role in Europe's security, defence and economy.

Brummel thanked Birchall for excellent organisational and personal collaboration, emphasising the special relationship between Romania and the UK, according to a press statement released by the Romanian government.
