The new chair of Romania's Court of Auditors (CCR) Mirela Calugareanu says that she will continue to consolidate a transparent, efficient court steered to the needs of society, which is currently in a process of reform and modernisation.

"I want to thank the Romanian Parliament for the trust placed in me by this appointment. I take up this position with responsibility, commitment and openness, at an important moment for the Court of Auditors, an institution in a sustained process of reform and modernisation, the results of which are already internationally acknowledged. Together with my colleagues I will continue to advocate for strengthening a transparent, efficient and society-oriented institution. I strongly believe in the role of public audit as a tool of trust at the service of the citizen, and open communication, inter-institutional cooperation and responsibility for the public interest will remain essential directions in our activity," Calugareanu is quoted as saying in a CCR press statement released on Tuesday, agerpres reports.

In a joint meeting of July 14, 2025, the Romanian Parliament passed a decision by which Mirela Calugareanu was appointed to the position of chair of Romania's Court of Auditors following its vacancy after Mihai Busuioc started his tenure as a judge with the Constitutional Court of Romania.

The decision was taken based on the provisions of the Romanian Constitution, republished, and Law no. 94/1992 on the organisation and operation of the Court of Auditors as subsequently amended and supplemented.

Calugareanu is said to have a solid experience within the court, being previously an account advisor, who actively contributed to the processes of organisational reform and consolidation.
