The Agency for Agricultural Payments and Intervention (APIA) started on Wednesday the transfer of the amounts related to the coupled support for the 2024 campaign, in which 43,500 Romanian farmers will get payments exceeding EUR 60 million from the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF).
"We fully understand the importance of these funds for maintaining agricultural activities and for supporting sensitive sectors, such as animal husbandry and special crops. Farmers will find the money in their accounts starting tomorrow and in the coming days," according to APIA Director General Nicoleta Gabriela Andrei.
The funds cover both basic interventions and forms of coupled support for special crops (soybeans, alfalfa, legumes, rice, potato seed, sugar beet, vegetables, fruit) and the livestock sector (dairy cows, beef, sheep, goats, dairy buffaloes and silkworms).
Among the largest allocations are soybeans - over EUR 14 million; alfalfa - over EUR 12 million; sugar beet - over EUR 12 million; vegetables grown in the field, greenhouses and solariums - about EUR 6.4 million; fruit (plums, apples, cherries, etc.) - over EUR 2.5 million.
Payments are made in RON against the exchange rate set by the European Commission of RON 4.9753 to the EUR.
