Romania's public debt after the third quarter of 2015 was 259.12 billion lei, or 37.2 percent of the gross domestic product, down by 0.8 percentage points from 38pct (259.48 billion lei) in the previous quarter, according to data released on Friday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
Seven EU member states had quarterly increases of their government debt in Q3 2015; Romania was among the 21 European countries with lower public debts.
In terms of GDP, the Q3 2015 public debt was 9.8pct in Estonia, 21.3pct in Luxemburg, 26.9pct in Bulgaria, 36.4pct in Latvia, 37.2pct in Romania, etc., with Greece (171pct), Italy (134.6pct) and Portugal (130.5pct) at the other end of this ranking.
