Romania's final electricity consumption January through May 2018 increased by 2.6 percent compared to the same interval of 2017, up to 23.516 billion kWh, while the public lighting recorded a 4.7 percent drop and the household consumption declined by 10.2 percent, a release of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Thursday informs.
According to the quoted source between 1 January and 31 May 2018, the primary energy sources increased by 3.8 percent, while the electricity sources declined by 0.2 percent compared to the same period of 2017.
The primary energy sources during the reference period totalled 14.305 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), higher by 525,400 toe.
Furthermore, the domestic production totalled 8.780 million toe, down 23,200 toe against the first five months of 2017, while the import stood at 5.525 million toe.
The INS data showed that, during the analysed period, the electricity sources were 29.003 billion kWh, down 64.8 million kWh.
Moreover, in the first months of 2018, the heat production stood at 11.151 billion kWh, down 945.6 million kWh (-7.8pct) compared to the same interval of 2017.
Hydroelectric power production was 8.227 billion kWh (+21.4pct compared to January-May 2017), while nuclear power was 4.492 billion kWh, declining by 69.6 million kWh (-1.5pct).
The official statistics reveal that, between January-May 2018, the wind power production was 3.279 billion kWh, declining by 129.7 million kWh compared to the same period of the last year and the solar energy produced in photovoltaic plants accounted for 699.2 million kWh, by 46 million kWh less compared to the corresponding period of 2017.
Romania's energy export stood at 2.702 billion kWh, declining by 602.6 million kWh. At the same time, in the first five months of 2018, the self-consumption in networks and stations dropped by 57.9 million kWh, up to 2.785 billion kWh.
