Romania needs a stable, coherent and aligned fiscal framework with European practices, which would encourage investments and competitiveness and provide predictability for long-term investments, argues the president of AHK Romania, Volker Raffel.
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, AHK Romania welcomes the decision of the Romanian Government to reduce the minimum turnover tax to 0.5% starting January 1, 2026 and eliminate it from 2027.
The organization also welcomes the commitment to reduce central government spending by 10%.
"We welcome the abolition of the minimum turnover tax and the Government's commitment to reducing central administration expenses. However, from the business perspective, our expectation was that this tax would be eliminated without a transition period by 2027. Romania needs a stable, coherent fiscal framework aligned with European practices, which would encourage investment and competitiveness and provide predictability for long-term investments. Investments contribute to economic growth and, through taxes, to the budget, but taxes that hinder investments are a gain for the budget only in the short term, having a negative impact in the medium and long term," said the president of AHK Romania, Volker Raffel, quoted in the press release.
According to the representative of German investors, a coherent fiscal structure, based on sound economic principles and aligned with European standards, stimulates investments and competitiveness and contributes to consolidating a climate of trust for long-term investments in Romania.
"Cost reduction in public administration must be achieved by reducing bureaucracy, simplifying processes and also digitalization; at the same time, strong and credible institutions represent a very important prerequisite for further economic growth. In the context of discussions on relaunching the economy and increasing Romania's competitiveness, AHK Romania reaffirms its willingness to actively continue the dialogue with the authorities and to make its expertise and that of its members available to identify efficient and sustainable solutions," the press release further states.
AHK Romania is the official representative of the German economy. Through the services it offers and the events it organizes, AHK Romania actively supports German companies in their entry into the Romanian market and is also a partner of Romanian companies interested in the German market.
