Statistics Institute: Trade in motor vehicle up 5.6pct in Jan-July, in Romania

Motor vehicle trade business in Romania increased by 5.6%, as a gross series, in the first seven months of this year, compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to the same source, between January 1 and July 31, 2025, increasing volumes were recorded in: motor vehicle maintenance and repair activities (+22.6%), trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+15.2%), trade in motor vehicles (+4.2%) and trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+2.7%).

Also, in the same reference interval, as a series adjusted, depending on the number of business days and seasonality, the turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 4.5%.

INS data reveal that, in July 2025 vs July 2024, the volume of turnover in trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles increased as a gross series by 16.7%, due to the increases recorded in maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (+37.1%), trade in motor vehicles (+18.7%), trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+6.8%) and trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+1.7%).

The total turnover volume in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, series adjusted depending on the number of business days and seasonality, in July 2025, increased by 14% compared to July 2024.

According to official statistics, at a comparative level July - June 2025, the total turnover in motor vehicle trade saw an increase of 6.1%, as a gross series, due to the increases recorded in motor vehicle maintenance and repair activities (+11.9%), trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+8.6%), trade in motor vehicles (+4.3%) and trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+0.6%).

An increase in business in this segment was also recorded as an adjusted series, depending on the number of business days and seasonality, respectively of 2.8% in July 2025, compared to the previous month.
