The ProEtnica Intercultural Festival 2025, which gatherers the full diversity of Romania's cultural and ethnic traditions in Sighisoara, organized under the High Patronage of the President of Romania, reflects the rich diversity for which our country is known and admired worldwide, according to a Presidential Administration message sent to the organizers of the event, agerpres reports.
"It gives me a great pleasure to congratulate you on the opening of the current edition of the ProEtnica Festival, which gatherers in Sighisoara the full diversity of Romania's cultural and ethnic traditions, under the High Patronage of the President of Romania. Over the course of the previous twenty editions, you have shown passion and dedication in cultivating a living dialogue and building bridges between Romania's cultural and ethnic communities, for a better mutual understanding. At the same time, you continue to bring back to the attention of the general public the richness of diversity for which Romania is known and appreciated throughout the world. Together, united in diversity, we are Europeans, we belong to the common European cultural space and historical memory," the Presidential Administration message, signed by state adviser Catalina Galer reads.
According to the quoted source, through these events, which promote dialogue, knowledge, pluralism, tolerance and the mutual respect we owe one another, we "prove our commitment to the values of European civilization and our desire to pass on the precious legacy of harmonious coexistence to future generations."
"The presentation of the cultural heritage of the 20 national minorities through 30 artistic events represents a true example of cooperation and consensus, and expresses a shared will to capitalize on the cultural heritage of Romania's minorities. On this festive occasion, we reiterate the importance of minorities in society, thus confirming the dignity which the Romanian State grants through law to all ethnic, cultural and religious minorities, as a foundation of a mature and consolidated democracy. By learning to coexist, we exercise the freedom and dignity, th essential right to be ourselves in relation to others. Furthermore, this exercise helps us to firmly oppose to extremism, xenophobia, manifestations driven by hatred and violence, which undermine our social balance and peace. More than ever, we need to show solidarity and channel the creative potential toward strengthening a climate of peace, balance and dialogue, in pursuit of the common good," according to the message.
The Presidential Administration wished the ProEtnica Intercultural Festival to bring the joy of togetherness, strengthen the dialogue fostered in recent years and turn Sighisoara into a visible center of cultural diversity.
Volker Reiter, the Director of the Interethnic Educational and Cultural Youth Centre (ibz) in Sighisoara and organizer of the ProEtnica Intercultural Festival 2025 in Sighisoara, showed that it is the 3rd time in its 21-edition history that the festival enjoys the High Patronage of the President of Romania.
This year, the ProEtnica Festival also marks the celebration of 145 years of Romanian-German diplomatic relations.
The 21st edition of the ProEtnica Festival is financed this year by the Department for Interethnic Relations of the Romanian Government and the Ministry of Culture.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Mures County Council and with the support of Sighisoara Municipality, the National Agency for Roma and the Romano-Kher National Cultural Center.
