President Klaus Iohannis said the rally the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) is planning to organize this Saturday is an "inane, purely populist approach."
"Rallies are a form of protest and in a democracy protest is typically associated with opposition or the civil society's discontent of the governing. In no normal society is the protest rally a fixture to those in power. They have the Government, Parliament, they have all the instruments at hand to solve the country's issues. Protest is the last resort. I find this is an inane, purely populist approach," Iohannis said on Tuesday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.
Social Democrat leader and Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea announced on Monday that a protest rally against long-standing abuse and the breach of rule of law principles will be organized on Saturday as of 20:00 hrs.
The decision was taken in the PSD National Executive Committee (CExN).
"We are expecting all those who wish to live in a free country to join (...), due to the looming perspective that a huge toxic propaganda causes an illegitimate, obscure, underground entity to parasite on the state's institutions, to influence major decisions in an occult manner, to allow for abuses (..), allow for tens of thousands of destinies to be broken," the PSD Chairman said at the end of the CExN meeting.
