Industrial production down by 2.6% in January-February

Industrial production fell in the first two months of this year compared with the same period in 2025, both as a gross series (-2.6%) and as a seasonally and business day adjusted series (-2.5%), according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to the same source, in the period 1 January - 28 February 2026, the decline in industrial production (gross series) was driven by decreases in manufacturing (-4.4%) and extractive industry (-2.7%). Production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased by 7.6%.

Industrial production, adjusted for business days and seasonality, in the period 1 January - 28 February 2026 compared with 1 January - 28 February 2025, was down by 2.5%, as a result of decreases in manufacturing (-4.2%) and extractive industry (-2.4%). Production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased by 7%.

According to the INS, in February 2026 industrial production (gross series) increased compared with the previous month by 9.3%, driven by growth in manufacturing (+14.5%). Production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning, and the extractive industry fell by 9.3% and 4% respectively. Industrial production, seasonally and business day adjusted, was down by 0.4% compared with the previous month, as a result of decreases in the extractive industry (-2%) and in production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning (-1.7%). Manufacturing increased by 0.7%.

Compared with the same month of the previous year, industrial production (gross series) fell by 1.8%, due to decreases in the extractive industry (-3.5%) and manufacturing (-2.8%). Production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased by 4.5%.

Industrial production, seasonally and business day adjusted, was down by 1.5% compared with February of the previous year, due to decreases in the extractive industry (-3.1%) and manufacturing (-2.4%). Production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased by 4.4%.
