Residents in the northern part of Tulcea County received two RO-ALERT messages overnight amid the war launched by Russia in Ukraine, after surveillance systems detected groups of drones near the Romanian-Ukrainian border.

In both extreme alerts issued around 02:37 and 05:08, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations warned residents of possible falling objects and urged them to seek shelter.

"Two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, on Air Policing duty, took off from the 86th Air Base in Fetesti, and air defence systems were placed on combat readiness. (...) No unauthorised incursions into national airspace were reported," the Ministry of National Defence Romania (MApN) said in a press release.

The air alert was lifted at 05:42.

The Ministry of Defence recorded 15 incidents in the first two months of this year linked to attacks near the border, with ten requiring the scrambling of Air Policing aircraft.
