President Nicusor Dan said on Tuesday in Helsinki, during a joint press conference with EU Eastern Flank leaders, that even if peace is achieved in Ukraine, Russia will continue to pose a permanent threat.

"We hope there will be peace in Ukraine, but even if that peace is achieved, Russia will remain a permanent threat. So we must be prepared," the head of state stated.

He noted that the aim of the Finland Security Summit is to put NATO and EU programmes for the region into action, with the summit to be followed by technical ministerial meetings.

"Our efforts within the EU must complement those of NATO," the Romanian president said, emphasising the need for a balance between the northern and southern parts of the region, while noting that Romania has offered to host a security hub on the Black Sea.

Nicusor Dan also stressed the importance of countering disinformation.

"Disinformation is the most effective attack on our democracies, and you have seen this in Romania. I believe we should make greater efforts in the technological field," he added.
