US President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened several European countries - Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland - that he would impose additional customs tariffs on them until " a deal is reached for the complete and total purchase of Greenland." This surcharge, of 10 percent, will take effect from 1 February and could reach 25 percent on 1 June, Trump said.
French President Emmanuel Macron "will be in contact all day with his European counterparts" and will ask "the EU to activate its 'anti-coercion' measure" if the threats of additional customs tariffs made by Donald Trump are implemented, sources close to him announced on Sunday, AFP reports.
Furthermore, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Sunday described as a mistake the threat of additional customs tariffs made by Donald Trump against several European countries that oppose his ambitions to impose US control over Greenland, adding that she had conveyed her standpoint to the US president, AFP and EFE report.
