Culture has been and remains the space in which society's great ideas are transformed into lasting benchmarks, President Nicusor Dan conveyed on Thursday, adding that the Presidential Administration will put the theater hall of the Cotroceni Palace at the disposal of independent groups of young actors and high school students for free performances.

"The National Culture Day brings to mind that Romania's identity has been shaped over time, through creativity and a vocation for universality. Culture has been and remains the space in which society's great ideas are transformed into lasting benchmarks, capable of connecting the past, present and future of a nation," the President conveyed in a message occasioned by the National Culture Day.

Nicusor Dan urges for support for culture "even in a context marked by economic and geopolitical challenges."

"'Culture is the best and safest wealth of people' said Mihai Eminescu, whose name is inseparably linked to this special day. Even in a context marked by economic and geopolitical context, we have an obligation not to abandon culture. Our architectural heritage, contemporary artistic initiative and new forms of cultural expression must be valorised through coherent public policies, but also through the involvement of private environment. The digitalization of cultural heritage opens new bridges between tradition and innovation, and brings culture closer to the young people," the head of state said.

Thus 2026, dedicated to Constantin Brancusi, represents an invitation to look to the future with confidence, being inspired from the creative force of the artist who turned the Romanian specificity into a universal value.

"Contemporary Romanian culture needs not only support, but also real spaces for expression" the president said, announcing that "this is why, as of this year, the Presidential Administration will periodically make the theatre hall inside the Cotroceni Palace available for free performances by independent groups of young actors and high school students."

"It is a natural gesture through which we open the gates to new generations of creators. The theatre groups wishing to perform in the hall at the Cotroceni can send requests at the following email cultura@presidency.ro and will receive details. We need a living culture and I thank all those who, regardless of their areas, dedicates themselves to art, giving it meaning and continuity. Happy birthday to Romanian culture!," Nicusor Dan added.

As of 15 January 2011, the Romanian Culture has benefited from an official national celebration, set on the anniversary of poet Mihai Eminescu. The National Culture Day was initiated by academician Eugen Simion, the President of the Romanian Academy at the time, and was enacted by Romania's Parliament in 2010. Now in its 16th edition, the National Culture Day is celebrated in all communities inhabited by Romanians, within or outside the country's borders.
