Prime Minister Viorica Dancila assured President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani, within a meeting taking place in Strasbourg, that Romania's Justice laws aim the alignment to the European legislation and they were made in full transparency and dialogue with European partners, including with the Venice Commission.
According to a release of the Gov't, the two officials focused on aspects related to the preparation and exercise by Romania of the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2019.
The PM reconfirmed her commitment and that of Romania's Government for ensuring a good preparation of the Romanian Presidency, as well as for consolidating the European project. Moreover, it was also highlighted that the European Parliament is an essential partner for Romania in the preparation process of taking over the Presidency and plays an important role in deepening the European construction or in bringing the citizens close to the Union institutions.
Furthermore, the two officials carried out a constructive discussion regarding Romania's reforms in the justice area.
"Prime Minister Viorica Dancila reconfirmed that the amendments brought to the justice laws aim the alignment to the European legislation and were made in full transparency and dialogue with European partners, including the Venice Commission. In this context, the PM reconfirmed the openness for continuing the dialogue with this institution. Moreover, the Executive head also brought up the secret protocols topic concluded between the intelligence services and various judicial institutions of Romania, pointing out that, for Romania's Government, the observance of the citizens' rights is a constant concern," the Gov't release mentions.
