More than 5.2 million arrivals were registered in the Romanian tourist accommodation units in the first six months of this year, up 4.1pct compared to the same period of last year, 75.8pct being arrivals of Romanian tourists, according to the data released by the National Institute of Statistics on Friday for AGERPRES.
Among foreign tourists, most arrivals are from Germany (144,700), Israel (120,200) and Italy (112,500).
Overnight stays in tourist accommodation units in the first half of 2018 amounted to 10.36 million, up 2.5pct compared to January-June 2017, 76.8pct being Romanian tourists.
The average length of stay was two days for Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for foreign tourists.
The net occupancy rate of accommodation places in the first half was 25.7pct per total tourist accommodation units, up by 0.4 percentage points over the corresponding period last year. Higher rates of use of accommodation were recorded in hotels (32.7pct), ship accommodation spaces (24.5pct), hostels (19.5pct), tourist villas (19.2pct) and tourist boarding houses (18pct).
In terms of counties, the number of tourists' arrivals in the tourist accommodation units registered higher values in Bucharest (991,400), Brasov (594,200), Cluj (289,800) and Constanta (289,100) and the number of overnight stays of tourists were higher in Bucharest (1.609 million), Brasov (1.153 million), Constanta (874,700) and Cluj (526,200).
The arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border crossing points, were 5,107 million in the reference period, up 7.1pct over the same period last year. Most foreign visitors came from countries in Europe (92.5pct) and 50.9pct from EU countries. Of the EU states, most arrivals were from Bulgaria (28pct), Hungary (27.3pct) and Italy (8.1pct).
On the other hand, the departures abroad of Romanian visitors, registered at border crossing points, amounted to 9,580 million, on the increase by 3.8pct compared to H1 2017. The road transport means were the most used for the departures abroad, representing 67.7pct of the total number of departures.
