Oltenia Energy Complex's activity partially affected by ransomware cyber attack

The activity of the Oltenia Energy Complex (CEO) was partially affected following a ransomware cyber attack, called "Gentlemen", without endangering the functioning of the National Energy System, the company informed on Saturday.

The cyber attack was identified on December 26, around 1:40, affecting the CEO's business IT infrastructure.

"Following the attack, some documents and files were encrypted, and several IT applications became temporarily unavailable, including ERP systems, document management applications, the e-mail service and the company's website. The company's activity was partially affected, without endangering the functioning of the National Energy System", the quoted source stated.

CEO representatives mention that the systems affected by the cyber attack were isolated immediately after the incident was discovered. At the same time, the situation was reported to the National Cyber Security Directorate, the Ministry of Energy and other competent authorities, and CEO management filed a criminal complaint for the crimes of illegal access to an IT system and alteration of the integrity of IT data, Agerpres informs.

The extent of the incident is currently being analyzed, and CEO assures that it is making every effort to "completely restore the IT systems in the shortest possible time".

"From the moment the attack was identified, the IT specialists of the Oltenia Energy Complex started the process of rebuilding the systems on a new infrastructure, using the existing backup copies. Currently, the exact extent of the incident is being analyzed, as well as the existence of a possible data exfiltration", the CEO also informs.
