Nicusor Dan, meeting with General Alexus Grynkewic:Romania remains credible and responsible ally within NATO

President Nicusor Dan received, on Monday, at Cotroceni Palace, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers in Europe (SACEUR) and of the United States European Command (USEUCOM), General Alexus G. Grynkewich, on the occasion of his visit to Romania.

According to a press release from the Presidential Administration, President Nicusor Dan highlighted, on this occasion, the security challenges in the Black Sea region determined by Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, which also affects Romania through drone incursions into national airspace.

In this context, the president appreciated the launch of NATO Operation Eastern Sentry, which will strengthen the deterrence and defense posture of the North Atlantic Alliance on the entire Eastern Flank, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.

Nicusor Dan also provided assurances that "our country will remain a credible and responsible ally within NATO, which will respect its commitments, both operationally, by participating in Allied missions and operations, and in terms of allocations for the Defense budget, according to the target assumed at the NATO Summit in The Hague in 2025", the cited source also indicates.

At the same time, General Alexus G. Grynkewich appreciated Romania's essential role for security and stability in the Black Sea region, as well as our country's important contribution to European and Euro-Atlantic security as a whole, the Presidential Administration stated.

The Supreme Allied Commander Europe stressed that NATO pays continuous attention to regional security developments and takes the necessary measures to deter any hostile actions and improve the collective defense of the entire territory of the North Atlantic Alliance.

President Nicuşor Dan and General Alexus G. Grynkewich mentioned the mutual appreciation and joint commitment of Romania and the United States of America to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of Defense.

General Alexus G. Grynkewich also had a meeting, on Monday, with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

On Tuesday, General Alexus G. Grynkewich will pay a working visit to the 'Getica' National Joint Training Center in Cincu and to the Multinational Corps Headquarters South-East (MNC-SE HQ) in Sibiu, together with General Gheorghiţă Vlad, Chief of the Defense Staff.
