Romania's position on the situation of Greenland is that sovereignty represents "something important that concerns international law", and any issues related to defense, which are legitimate, must be handled, especially in the context of two NATO countries, through dialogue, President Nicusor Dan declared on Thursday.
The head of state is participating in the informal European Council in Brussels.
"It is an informal European Council, which has as its object the transatlantic relationship and this has several components - Greenland, tariffs, Ukraine - very important, we may also discuss Mercosur and my general message is that we need this transatlantic relationship - Europe and Romania - and that it is very good that, as we somehow anticipated, following the dialogue, some escalation that had occurred has diminished and we have returned to normal parameters", explained the head of state upon his arrival at the meeting of European leaders.
As to the evaluation of Romania's accession to the Board of Peace, Nicusor Dan stressed: "This is not a simple matter, it is a Charter that commits the Romanian state to an international issue and an analysis must be made of the relationship between the rights and obligations that would result from this Charter with all the other charters - the UN Charter, for example, to which Romania is a party".
Asked about a possible scenario of Romania's unification with the Republic of Moldova, the president said that this would be possible "when a majority in the Republic of Moldova wants it".
"For the moment, we are not there", he added.
Regarding the discussions related to Ukraine at the EU level, Nicusor Dan said that "dialogue is important and for the moment we are in a balanced position".
