AGERPRES special corespondent, Dana Piciu, reports: PSD MEP Victor Negrescu declared on Tuesday that a decision by the Constitutional Court on the unconstitutionality of the project regarding magistrates' pensions will lead to the suspension of sums of money that Romania was to receive through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and in this situation those who drafted the project must explain what they wanted to do.

Negrescu was asked if Romania would lose 230 million euros, European money, if the project regarding magistrates' pensions were rejected by the CCR, considering that the legislation in the field was supposed to be in force on November 28.

"Everything is conditioned by the Romanian Government's capacity to apply this law. The decision of the Constitutional Court will be extremely relevant and important to see whether or not we lose this money. A decision by the CCR to invalidate or declare this law unconstitutional will at least lead to the suspension of these sums of money. In this sense, obviously, those who drafted the law must explain what they wanted to do and support this law until the end," he explained, at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The social democrat added that, as the European Parliament's rapporteur on the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, he will do everything he can to ensure that Romania does not lose this money.

"Here, at the European level, I wish that Romania does not lose any money allocated to our country at the European level," Victor Negrescu said.

Asked if Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan should resign if the project does not pass the CCR, Negrescu replied: "I do not have an answer to this question. However, the Prime Minister of Romania, I have noted in his public interviews, that he fully assumes this law and, regardless of the CCR's decision, it is something that he must explain.
