The President of the Romanian Parliament's Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF), Senator Sorin Mihai Cimpeanu, on Wednesday awarded the National Order "Star of Romania" in the rank of Grand Officer to the French politician Pierre Moscovici, member of the European Court of Auditors, during an official ceremony held at the Romanian Senate.
According to a press release sent by the Senate, the distinction was granted by decree by President Nicusor Dan, in recognition of Pierre Moscovici's contribution to the development of external public audit in the European context, as well as for his essential role within the European and international/French-speaking organizations of supreme audit and control institutions of public finances.
In his Laudatio, Sorin-Mihai Cimpeanu highlighted Pierre Moscovici's contribution to Romania's accession to the European Union, mentioning the multiple official positions he held: Minister of European Affairs (1997-2002, Lionel Jospin Government), Minister of Economy and Finance (2012-2014, Jean-Marc Ayrault Governments), Member of the National Assembly in the 11th, 13th and 14th legislatures, European Commissioner for Economic, Monetary and Fiscal Affairs (2014-2019), Member of the European Parliament (4th and 6th legislatures), Vice-President of the European Parliament and EP rapporteur for Romania.
Pierre Moscovici's Romanian roots were also mentioned, his father, Professor Serge Moscovici - founder of modern social psychology - being born in Braila.
The official ceremony was attended by Mihai Cotet, Vice Speaker of the Senate, Natalia Intotero, Vice Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, President of the European Court of Auditors Tony Murphy, former Speaker of the Senate Calin Popescu Tariceanu, Lucian Romascanu, member of the European Court of Auditors from Romania, Ambassador of France to Romania, Nicolas Warnery, President of the Court of Auditors of Romania, Mirela Calugareanu, President of the Court of Auditors of the Republic of Moldova, Tatiana Şevciuc, Mihai Busuioc, Judge of the Constitutional Court of Romania and former President of the Court of Auditors of Romania.
