The radar systems of the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) detected a drone in Ukrainian airspace on Friday morning at 06:57, heading towards the northern part of Tulcea County, air defence systems were placed on alert, but the aerial vehicle did not enter national airspace, the Ministry of National Defence announced.
'On the morning of 27 February, at 06:57, the radar systems of the Ministry of National Defence detected a drone in Ukrainian airspace, heading towards the northern part of Tulcea County. Air defence systems were placed on alert, and at 07:17 a public warning message was issued via the RO-ALERT system for the targeted area,' the Ministry of National Defence said in a press release sent to AGERPRES.
According to the source, the aerial vehicle did not enter national airspace and at 07:47 the alert status was lifted.
The Ministry of National Defence continuously monitors the airspace, in close cooperation with NATO allies, to ensure Romania's safety and territorial integrity.
On Thursday, four fighter aircraft were scrambled after the radar systems of the Ministry of National Defence signalled the presence of two drones near the border with Ukraine, one of which briefly entered national airspace.
