The Minister of Culture, Demeter Andras, on Thursday conveyed a message on the National Minorities Day, in which he emphasised the importance of preserving, developing and promoting, through intercultural dialogue, the diversity of cultural values specific to each community.
"The Ministry of Culture, through its specialised departments and institutions, constantly promotes intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity. And we have important partners, which help us precisely do that - national minority organisations, the Department for Interethnic Relations, local authorities, embassies and all those who contribute to the preservation, development and promotion of cultural values specific to each community. Together we are stronger and more efficient. Through constant action and active involvement, we cultivate cultural heritage, preserve our identity, transform diversity into cohesion and form open generations, capable of understanding and respecting difference. On the occasion of the National Minorities Day in Romania, I thank you all for your contribution and for the beautiful collaboration that we have," highlighted Demeter Andras.
The Minister of Culture's speech was presented at an event at the "Dimitrie Gusti" National Village Museum by Secretary of State Koppany Bulcsu Otvos.
In his turn, Petru Farago, Deputy Secretary General of the Government, while representing the Hungarian minority, reiterated the importance of the contribution of national minorities to Romania's history, as "a condition for trust and social cohesion".
"I believe that the most important thing is to reaffirm an essential fact: the history of this country, the history of Romania, was built through coexistence, the minority communities contributed, alongside, of course, the majority, to the formation of this state at the local level, at the cultural, educational and institutional levels," said Petru Farago.
In his turn, the Undersecretary of State within the Government's Department for Interethnic Relations, Dincer Geafer, underscored the need to focus on education, combat discrimination and promote constant dialogue between all ethnic and social groups in Romania.
"On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to support and respect the rights of each national minority, strengthening unity and diversity, which makes Romania a better place for all its citizens," said Dincer Geafer.
On the occasion of the National Minorities Day, celebrated annually on December 18th, the Department for Interethnic Relations within the General Secretariat of the Government organised a cultural event dedicated to the contribution of national minorities to the diversity and cultural richness of Romania at the "Dimitrie Gusti" National Village Museum, on Thursday.
Among the evening highlights there is an exhibition called "Community. Multiculturality. Development", created by photographic artists who promote national minorities, and also a fashion presentation, signed by Roma fashion designer Zita Moldovan, a reinterpretation of Roma culture and tradition.
Ensembles of national minority associations and unions held a folklore recital.
The event was attended by artisans belonging to national minorities, representatives of the Romanian state authorities and the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Bucharest.
