The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT), Laurentiu Gidei, urged Romanians in Spain to be ambassadors of Romanian tourism and to promote the country's history, culture and gastronomy.
"Dear Romanians in the diaspora, we invite you to share with your Spanish friends everything that makes Romania special - from wonderful places, to history, culture and gastronomy. Every recommendation, every photo or story can be an invitation to travel. Let's be ambassadors of Romania together!", sent the Secretary of State, who led the Romanian delegation that participated in the international tourism fair FITUR - Madrid.
According to a press release from the ministry, the Madrid tourism fair is one of the most important events of its kind worldwide, with an agenda focused on consolidating its position on the international tourism market.
The MEDAT delegation carried out a series of actions dedicated to promoting the destination of Romania and developing bilateral tourism relations, with an emphasis on the Spanish market, one of the priority markets for Romanian tourism.
On Wednesday, the first day of FITUR was dedicated to B2B meetings. At the Romanian stand, discussions took place with representatives of event organizers, as well as TV and radio journalists and representatives of publications specializing in tourism and gastronomy, with interest focused on authentic content, cultural experiences and thematic circuits.
On the same day, the Romanian stand was visited by a delegation from the Romanian Embassy in Madrid, led by Raluca Mihăilă, Chargé d'Affaires, who held a dialogue with the Romanian delegation at FITUR. Our country's stand was also visited by Florea Tiberiu Trifan, Consul General of Romania in Madrid. The discussions focused on the role of the Romanian community in Spain, one of the largest outside the country's borders, as well as concrete ways to promote Romania as a tourist destination, by capitalizing on cultural ties.
Also on Wednesday, a meeting with influencers took place at the Romanian stand, in which work directions were outlined for the development of future infotrip-type actions and documentary visits to Romania, dedicated to content creators from several international markets, in order to increase the visibility of the Romanian destination in the digital environment.
The second day of the event was marked by the participation of the Secretary of State at the official inauguration ceremony of FITUR, held in the presence of His Majesty Felipe VI, King of Spain. The day's agenda also included participation in an event organized at the stand of the Republic of Moldova, an opportunity for dialogue and exchange of experience in the field of tourism promotion.
The Romanian delegation had a working meeting with representatives of the World Tourism Organization - UN Tourism, the discussions being dedicated to good practices in the implementation and management of tourism package guarantee instruments.
The Romanian delegation was also present at the stand of the Valencia Community, where the presentation of the International Paella Competition took place. In this context, it was officially announced that Romania is among the countries that will organize a semi-final of the competition, an initiative with the potential to promote gastronomy and culture and increase Romania's visibility among the international public. Also from the perspective of exploring opportunities to increase the visibility of the destination, discussions were also held with the organizers of EXPO 2027 Belgrade, Serbia.
The second day's program ended with the MEDAT delegation visiting the photography exhibition "Bucharest - Maps in Motion", organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute, a project that promotes the Romanian capital through visual art and contemporary perspectives on urban space.
The Romanian stand also hosted a program focusing on cultural heritage. A folk artist demonstrated egg painting, and a group of 28 children from the diaspora performed folk dances, wearing traditional Romanian costumes.
"Romania's participation in FITUR Madrid was a constructive approach, focused on dialogue and on creating the premises for medium and long-term results. This approach, based on assumed leadership and applied dialogue, is the one through which we transform our presence at international fairs into real benefits for Romanian tourism", declared Alin Grigore, deputy general director of the General Directorate of Tourism, quoted in the press release.
