Romania's industrial output grew in the first five months of 2018, both as gross series, by 4%, and as adjusted series, by 5.7%, compared to the same period of the previous year, largely due to the activities of the processing industry, according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to statistics, in the comparative reference range, industrial production (gross series) recorded positive results in manufacturing (+ 5.1%) and mining and quarrying (+ 1.9%). On the other hand, the production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning decreased by 1.7%.
Also, the 5.7% increase in industrial production, adjusted depending on the number of working days and seasonality, the processing industry registered a drop of 6.9% and the extractive industry of 2.1%. At the opposite end was the production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning, with a decrease of 1.4%.
According to the source, in May 2018 industrial production (gross series) increased by 1.2%, supported by the manufacturing industry (+ 2%), compared to the same month of the previous year. The extractive industry and the production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning decreased by 3.5% and 2.2%, respectively.
At the same time, industrial production (adjusted series) increased by 3.6% as a result of manufacturing activity growth (+ 3.6%). At the same time, the extractive industry and the production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning were lower by 3.5% and 1.5%, respectively.
Comparing May 2018 vs April 2018, industrial output (gross series) climbed 9.4%, due to increases in manufacturing (+ 11.9%) and extraction industry (+ 8.3%). The production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning decreased by 5.9%.
As series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, industrial production was lower by 0.4% compared to the previous month due to declines in manufacturing (-1.8%) and production and supply of electricity, heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (-0.7%). In contrast, the extractive industry grew by 4.1%.
